WHAT TO CHOOSE AS WINE FOR A PARTY?

It’s almost the weekend and you’re invited to a party! What great news! The only downside is that you have no idea what wine to bring. The question is very broad but I will give you some advice to shine in society and make you stand out by your applied choice.

THERE’LL BE A LOT OF PEOPLE THERE!

First of all, you must determine which evening you are going to. The plan of attack and therefore the choice of wine will not be at all the same depending on whether you go for a small “simple” dinner with friends and/or THE evening of the year, to which you were invited by a vague acquaintance who asked you not to come empty-handed.

A GOURMET DINNER FOR FOUR?

Your hosts want to please you and have spent half their day in the kitchen? You can’t afford to miss your shot with a bad wine. Several solutions are available to you depending on whether you know the menu or not!

For a long time, you no longer receive a card with the detailed menu, allowing you to choose precisely the wine(s) you will bring to your evening. Unfortunately this no longer exists so forget your manners and ask for details on the menu. Do not hesitate to highlight your will to highlight the long work of your guests in the kitchen.

Then, I invite you to go to your wine merchant in order to have the most precise advice possible.

If you can’t have the details of the menu or if it’s too delicate to ask, the fallback solution that works every time is to bring a bottle of champagne. Chances are it will cost you a little more (between 20 and 45€) but it’s always nice and at least there won’t be any taste mistakes!

A BUFFET WITH A DOZEN PEOPLE?

There, we arrive in situations where it becomes complicated to please everyone. Buffets are generally adapted to each season. Do the same for the choice of your wines: in winter, opt for comforting, fruity and generous red wines; in summer, think of rosé wines. White wine is valid all year round. It is with the latter that you will take the least risk. Generally speaking, white wine is much more versatile than reds and/or rosés.

Here are the wines I recommend for your buffets: it is advice and not absolute truth but these wines work well and will be versatile enough.

TO MAKE YOUR BUFFETS A SUCCESS FOR SURE!

BLANCS

Muscadet, Bordeaux white, Burgundy Aligoté, Chablis – Dry and refreshing

Chardonnay de Bourgogne, Chenin sec de Loire, Crozes-Hermitage Blanc – Round and fruity

ROSÉS

Côtes de provence, Gris de gris, Sancerre – Light and refreshing (ideal in summer)

Tavel, Marsannay – Intense and delicate

ROUGES

Minervois, Côtes de Blaye, Crozes Hermitage – Sunny and fruity

Coteaux de Giennois, Sancerre, Bourgogne pinot noir – Light and fresh

All these wines are excellent companions of your buffets and aperitifs dinner.

A PARTY WITH A LOT, A LOT OF PEOPLE!

Are you invited to a housewarming party? You don’t know what to bring: wine, champagne, alcohol?

Choosing the right type of product really depends on the audience at the party. You must adapt yourself according to whether it is a student evening or the last social event.

UNE RÈGLE D’OR
If you think or know that your bottle will be lost in the mass, please yourself! And stay close to the bottle you brought. You’ll at least be sure to have a nice glass of wine!

Generally speaking, the more people there are, the more sure you will be that alcoholic beverages will be of low quality. So you might as well be a little selfish and do according to your tastes and desires.

On the other hand, if what counts for you is to bring back a beautiful bottle without ruining yourself: buy on a classic.

TO MAKE YOUR EVENINGS A SUCCESS FOR SURE

RED BORDEAUX: A reassuring value. Prefer a cru bourgeois that will speak to a larger number of people.

CHAMPAGNE / CREMANT : The secret weapon to be noticed, bubbles ! And most people who drink it will not know the difference between a crémant, a prosecco and a champagne so take yourself a good bottle in the 10/15€ of a good crémant or prosecco and you will be sure to please. I organized evenings where people came to ask me for Champagne whereas I specified since the beginning that it was about crémant…

A VIOGNIER / CHARDONNAY: Languedoc is filled with excellent white local wines. Ideal for your evenings. A supple and fruity white that can be drunk without eating.

VOILÀ ! YOU’RE READY!

Never forget that the most important thing: no matter how many people, enjoy yourself! That’s the main reason to enjoy a good glass of wine. If you hesitate between a good or a bad bottle of wine, then hesitate rather to know more about it.

There’s nothing worse than wasting your time drinking bad wine! 😉
